Trapani, August 12th, 2015 – The Audi tron Sailing Series in Trapani, long waited top-notch event of the series and the crown for the next “King of Salt” is very close, in fact in less than 2 weeks the first opening event will be starting off with the Melges 32 World Championship followed by the Audi Melges 20 European Championship and the Melges 24 Italian Championship.

Already having hosted the venue in 2005 of the 32nd America's Cup, Trapani, the “City of Salt and Sailing” boasts a long history, timeless beauty and a racing course featured by strong steady winds. The Sicilian city awarded with two Gold medals (1898 and 1961) has so much to offer, also under a geographic point of view with its reserves in the salt pans as well as for its superb traditional food variety and one of its kind architectural beauties (such as the Mura di Tramontana with city views, the Viale delle Sirene by the Tower of Ligny)

The event organised by B.Plan Sport&Events in cooperation with Melges Europe will be starting 24th August with the first Melges 32 races concluding 30th August, the entry list counts over 20 participating international teams with big names such as ex-Luna Rossa tactician, Francesco Bruni, sailing on Alessandro Rombelli's Stig, the series leader, together with another favorite leading team Argo, 2-time world champion with Jason Carroll on the helm and Cameron Appleton as well as the already European Champion Robertissima, Roberto Tomasini Grinover's crew with tactician Vasco Vascotto, 25 times world champion, that collected his last victory just a few weeks ago with the TP52 Azzurra. Special attention to Edoardo Lupi's Torpyone with tactician Lorenzo Bressani, runner up at the 2014 Miami World Championship and winner of the series' second act in Portovenere.

The list goes on with many ex Olympians such as Jonathan McKee, gold medal at Los Angeles 1984, tactician on Delta, the already mentioned Francesco Bruni, with 5 Olympic games in his sailing cv, as well as Diogo Cayolla, Portuguese tactician on Fra Martina, Gabrio Zandonà, sailing on Brontolo HH. Olympic star also racing on Audi e-tron F.lli Giacomel, Tommaso Chieffi, that after Los Angeles 1984 he took part to the Volvo Ocean Race, becoming one of the most renowned Italian sailors abroad.

Free test drives will be available to the public also in Trapani with the latest Audi car models for 3 days during the weekend of the Melges 32 World Championship (28-29-30 August) and the Audi Melges 20 European Championship (3-4-5 September).
