Porto Ercole, Italy - Eighteen of the most competitive International Class Melges 32s have arrived and completed registration in Porto Ercole for the start of the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series, Act No. 4 organized by B.Plan Sport & Events (BPSE) in cooperation with Melges Europe.

It has been just one month since the fleet last raced in Riva del Garda. Teams are more prepared than ever as they look to not only do well in Porto Ercole and earn the crown of “King of the Rock,” but also focus hard on winning the World Championship taking place at the end of next month. As many as 25 teams are expected to race at the Class’ premiere event of the season, and by far will be one of the most exciting ever held.

In true Melges 32 fashion, the rock stars are out in full force. In particular, newly crowned Melges 24 World Champion Chris Rast will call tactics aboard Alec Cutler’s hedgehog. Surely his confidence will carry over and potentially inspire Cutler and team to excel further on the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series Ranking. They currently sit fifth overall.

Currently leading the Series is none other than Roberto Tomasini Grinover’s Robertissima, with a substantial margin over second place Dalton DeVos on Delta. With DeVos absent this weekend, there is plenty of opportunity for third overall Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio’s G-SPOT and Alessandro Rombelli’s STIG (fourth after three events) to advance.

Racing starts on Friday, 10 July and concludes on 12 July. Eight races are scheduled with a discard going into effect after six complete.

As with all other Melges 32 events in Europe and around the world, racing updates will be posted online at the Official Audi Melges 32 Facebook Page. Tune in for the latest racing information, results, video interviews, and photos. Race reports, press releases and photos will be available online each day post racing at melges32.com.
