De Falco Takes Overall Win In Porto Venere — Crowned ‘King of Poets’ at 2015 Melges 20 Audi-Tron Sailing Series

10 May 2015

Porto Venere, Italy - The final day of racing in Porto Venere just wasn’t meant to be after the breeze failed to cooperate leaving Saturday’s Audi-Tron Sailing Series overall results as final. Four races were completed on Day 1 with Mirko De Falco’s Peccere with tactician Guglielmo Giordano submitting a 4-1-15-3 scoreline to command the fleet and win the event by ten points. This is the second Melges 20 European Sailing Series win for De Falco. His last accomplishment was back in 2012 when he won in Portoferrario.

Congratulations are also in full order for Corinthian Champion Wilma Homann aboard Fantastichina.

In second overall is Bo Boje Pedersen on UpUpUp from Denmark. Pedersen first joined the fleet in late 2013 and now, only a year-and-a-half later, Porto Venere marks his best finish ever in the Audi Melges 20 Class. Guido Miani on Out of Reach racing under the flag of Monaco completed the podium finishing third.

Rounding out the top five is Achille Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino Jr. in fourth and Manfredi Vianini Tolomei’s Maolca in fifth.

There are two more events on the near horizon for the International Class. The European Fleet reconvenes for the third act of the Audi-Tron Sailing Series event in beautiful and romantic Riva Del Garda on May 30-31, while the North American fleet heats up the water in Toronto, Canada for the Canadian National Championship hosted by the Port Credit Yacht Club on May 29-31.

Both World and European Championships have opened event registration. The World Championship takes place in gorgeous San Francisco later this year in September/October. The Euros happen early September 3-5 in Trapani. Now is the time to make plans to attend and race!
