Melges 32 Audi Sailing Series - Malcesine - The Penultimate Act

19 July 2012

Malcesine, Italy - It has only been a few days since the end of the third Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series event, characterized by an unforgettable Peler on the final day. In Malcesine, we breathe again the air of Audi Sailing Series - this time - the stage belongs to twelve Melges 32s moored at Fraglia Vela Malcesine.

The event on Lake Garda is particularly felt by the crew of Fantastica, owned by Lanfranco Cirillo. On their home waters, one year ago, Cirillo won the Audi Sailing Series, beating in the end Audi Fratelli Giacomel Armonia owned by Alessio Marinelli.

Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino is the current leader of the Audi Sailing Series and a fresh European Champion. His aim is clearly one of victory, even if the boat to beat could be Jason Carroll'sArgo, winner of the Porto Cervo event and definitely on top of the podium last year here in Malcesine.

In Malcesine, Edoardo Lupi's Torpyone and Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda are absent. Their boats are enroute to the USA for competition at the 2012 World Championship hosted by the New York Yacht Club, taking place in Newport, R.I. on September 25-29.

There are several changes in the crew lists. The Venetian Cesare Bozzetti will sail with Marc de Antonio's Bribon-Movistar, while Andrea Felci will be the mainsail trimmer on Brontolo HH, which has Daniele Cassinari as tactician returning after recovering from a knee injury. Aboard Roberto Tomasini Grinover's Robertissima, Flavio Favini will replace Lorenzo Bressani on tactics.

Each stage of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series consists of a maximum of eight races, with the limit set at no more than three regattas per day and the discard of the worst result at the end of the sixth race. Thursday is reserved for practice, races commence on Friday at 12.00.
