2012 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series Starts On Saturday

April 20 (Marina di Loano, Italy) - The Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series 2012 will start tomorrow, an event organized by B-Plan Sports & Events in collaboration with Melges Europe, Club Nautico Loano and the Yacht Club Marina di Loano.

This first event promises to make for a very interesting weekend. In terms of competition, more than twenty teams will compete, including STIG helmed by Alessandro Rombelli who won the Gold Cup last December in Miami together with Jonathan McKee and Giorgio Tortarolo. In Marina di Loano, Rombelli will utilize the experience of Lorenzo Bressani, who, during the 2012 season will serve as tactician aboard the brand new Mini Maxi Stig 65, recently launched for Alessandro Rombelli. Other favorites include European Champion Audi Out of Reach driven by the pair Guido Miani and tactician Gabriele Benussi.

Among those who will try to make life difficult for those favored to win is Renato Vallivero's Turnover with Marco Perazzo and Enrico Fonda as crew, former World Champion Francesco Farneti's Reggini Sailing Team will be helmed by Lorenzo Del Felice with Alberto Bolzan and Andrea Musone. Also, much is expected from Alessio Marinelli and Branko Brcin on Candida Sailing Team.

Other teams to watch are Dario Levi's Fremito d’Arja with tactician Andrea Casale, and Saverio Bifulco’s Noi di Nottewith the Portuguese tactician Hugo Rocha, winner of an Olympic bronze in the 470. Mirko De Falco’s Pecceréanticipates winning the Corinthian ranking.

Among the entries is fleet newcomer Antonio Sodo Migliori's Nerone, with tactician Andrea Fornaro, winner of the 2011 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series circuit.

The first races of the Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series will begin tomorrow morning at 10.30 (Italy). A maximum of six races will be sailed. To make things even more exciting, a discard at six races will come into play.

Weather forecasts currently predict a weekend of sun and light-medium breeze: ideal conditions for opening the season.
