Thirty-Eight Audi Melges 20s Commence The 2012 Miami Winter Regatta

11 February 2012

February 10 (Miami, FL) - A record-breaking 38 Audi Melges 20 teams have registered to compete at the 2012 Miami Winter Regatta, event number two in a series of three, hosted by Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC). "This is our ninth regatta we've held for the Audi Melges 20s." said Regatta Chair and GCSC Commodore Ron Rostorfer. "It's pretty amazing to see how far this class has come."

"The turnout for this event is just amazing." said Blink 20/20 owner John Arendshorst. "Typically we don't get as many for our February event. Surely, Bacardi Miami Sailing Week happening in a few weeks time will be equally, if not the most successful event the class has ever had worldwide."

The field of competitors is littered with sailing legends and youth alike. From the legendary Dave Ullman sailing with Doug McLean on Dark Star, to the teenage Alex Post helming Vaya Con Dios, from Paul Reilly's Red Sky to the all-girl team aboard Rhonda Joyce's Batteries Not Required, this fleet showcases diversified talent and aspiring potential at its very best.

Amidst the sunny-turned-torrential-downpour afternoon on Friday, registration closed setting the stage for yet, another successful event. Rain is predicted in the morning on Saturday, while a cold front will usher in awesome racing conditions on Sunday. PRO Bruce Golison informed during the evening Skippers briefing, that conditions are expected to be favorable for conducting four races on Saturday. It is the Race Committee's intention to run two additional heats on Sunday.
