Bribon-Movistar And IMMAC Take Lead In Training Races

27 January 2012

Barcelona January 27th – With British punctuality at 2 o'clock, the Race Committee of the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona, led by Vincent Cespedes, gave the warning signal of the first of multiple starts of the training phase of the third event of the Merchbanc Barcelona Melges 32 Winter Series. Two practice races were completed, one more than what was initially scheduled thanks to a perfect wind conditions.

The first heat was completed under beautiful breeze at 10-12 knots out of the west, which allowed teams to test their strength. After a good start Marc de Antonio’s Bribon Movistar with Hugo Rocha as tactician, took the lead followed by the Spanish Gunter, helmed by Javier Sherk and the Japanese of Team Bros, also this time "directed" by Manu Weiller. Great result for Bribon Movistar: victory in the first practice race, which was useful for the whole crew to improve the feeling with the boat.

After two more training starts, the second race of the day went on stage. This time the story changed since German IMMAC took the lead after a struggle with Bribon Movistar and Team Bros. IMMAC finally returns to victory in a race practice, repeating the success already achieved in the first phase of the Merchbanc Barcelona Melges 32 Winter Series in what now seems a distant November.

Starting tomorrow, the fleet means business with the commencement of the first of three windward-leeward races scheduled at 11 am. The show is guaranteed, since Team Bros aim to defend, tooth and nail, their first place position in this first edition of the Merchbanc Barcelona Melges 32 Winter Series. This leadership is closely threatened by Bribon Movistar, "we are sure that the local favourite team will spare no effort."
