The Audi Sailing Series Is Dedicated To The Wind and Sea: Jean Francois Cruette’s ‘Teasing Machine’ Wins The ‘150° Unita’ of Italy Regatta

17 March 2011

Thursday’s edition of the 2011 Melges 32 Audi Sailing Series, hosted by Circolo Canottieri Napoli, was a very special day. March 17th marked the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, and the '150°Unita' of Italy Regatta was organized to celebrate the occasion. While racing, every Melges 32 acknowledged the day by flying the Italian flag from the stern.

Needless to say, the line-up on the start was of a high technical standard, the very best in the international sailing world. With the breeze velocity at a fantastic 18 knots and gusts up to 25, the seas were large and the racing nothing short of spectacular.

Finishing first overall was France’s Jean-Francois Cruette on Teasing Machine. American John Kilroy aboard Samba Pa Ti was second, and Lanfranco Cirillo aboard Fantastica was third.

The first official start on Friday of the 2011 Melges 32 Audi Sailing Series is 1130.
