Dan Fink Takes Over The Lead At The 2009 MC Scow Invitational

11 July 2009

Article courtesy of Coye Harrett - Day two of the MC Invitational Regatta brought steady breeze for the 9AM start time. The wind today was out of the North with oscillation between North-Northwest. At the start of the first race it seemed like deja vu of yesterday with the port lifts. Mark Dunsworth played the shifts to a first place, followed by Markham Chatterton and Kevin Neal. As the fleet was sailing back to the starting area for the second race the breeze started to kick in like it's usual fashion.

For the second race of the day, third of the regatta, Dan Fink worked his way around the race course with the advantage of only one person on board for the downwind legs. Towards the end of the race the wind began to taper off, allowing the boats with only one to make some ground on those who took crews. At the finish it was Dan Fink followed by Kevin Neal then Steve Everest.

After a nice leisurely lunch break the fleet headed back out for breeze still out of the North but had slightly faded over lunch. There still was enough wind to sail though. The port angle seems to be a common theme of this regatta as there were massive lifts to the mark and virtually un-sailable starboard angles. Dan Fink was on his "A" game today as he won the third race of the day. Followed by Clear Lake locals, Eric Protzman and Todd Tesar. The Race Committee tried to pull off a fourth race of the day but the wind would not cooperate as they called the race off at the first windward mark as the breeze went flat.

Another 9AM start time tomorrow for the final day with the MC Invitational title on the line...

Overall Standings: (After 4 races)
Dan Fink - 27
Kevin Neal - 30
Mark Chatterton - 30
