The 2009 Melges 32 U.S. National Championship Rescheduled To Coincide With Rolex Big Boat Series, September 10-13

9 July 2009

Zenda, Wisc. (July 9) - The International Melges 32 Class Association, in full coordination with the North American Melges 32 Fleet, has rescheduled the 2009 U.S. National Championship to take place on September 10-13 in San Francisco, Calif. The event will happen concurrently with the 2009 Rolex Big Boat Series, hosted by the prestigious St. Francis Yacht Club.

On the preceding weekend of September 6-8, the IM32CA will conduct its first North American Championship, hosted by the Sausalito Yacht Club. The Class anticipates the ability to deliver seven successful high-powered race days on San Francisco Bay with the combined events. Up for grabs are two major championship titles, on back-to-back weekends, and in the same location as the 2010 World Championship.

Melges 32 teams are encouraged to get their entries in for both events immediately. Register Online NOW for the 2009 North American Championship and the U.S. National Championship | Rolex Big Boat Series.

North American fleet President Stephen Pugh states that the decision to change venues as well as the dates was not easy. "After speaking with several teams, and knowing how many were already looking to compete at the North Americans, it seemed to be the right decision in these tough economic times," says Pugh. "The Melges 32 Class is extremely grateful for the strong and unwavering commitment of the California Yacht Club. You can certainly count on the fleet racing in Marina Del Rey during 2010 as we get closer to Worlds."

All teams expecting to compete at either event are required to submit crew and owner declarations promptly, by August 26th, to IM32CA Class Admin, Joy Dunigan via e-mail or fax to: +1 (912) 756-6728.
