The final episode of the 2009 Melges 32 Winter Championship series will conclude this weekend at Premiere Racing's Acura Miami Grand Prix, March 5-8 in Miami, Fla. Nineteen Melges 32 teams have been signed, sealed and confirmed for competition, making it the largest class of one design sportboats in attendance.

Four days of intense, high performance yacht racing await the International Melges 32 Class Association (IM32CA) fleet. Those expected to do well include Winter Championship Series leader Marty Kullman and Mike Carroll (Tampa, Fla.) on USA-131 New Wave with Doug Fisher taking the lead on tactics, 2008 Gold Cup runner-up Jim Swartz (Edgartown, Mass.) and tactician Gavin Brady on his infallible USA-007 Q, and John Kilroy (San Francisco, Calif.) with the aide of Morgan Reeser on USA-188 Samba Pa Ti. The overseas competition is stacked high — Joe Woods (Torquay, UK) with tactician David Lenz on GBR-700 Red, and Carlo Alberini (Pesaro, Italy) employing the tactical expertise of Gabriele Benussi on ITA-186 Calvi Network will provide the fleet with some international diversity.

The IM32CA would like to welcome brand new fleet comers John and Jason Knoll (Pensacola, Fla.) on USA-122 Black Ice, Iker Belausteguigoitia (Miami, Fla.) on USA-140 La Calaca and perhaps, not new to the Melges 32, but new to international class competition is Ryan Devos (Holland, Mich.) with tactician Scott Nixon at his side aboard USA-180 Alpha One.
