Velocitek 2009 Top Speed Award To Be Awarded To The Fastest Melges 17
3 March 2009
Palmetto Performance Yachting (PPY) and Velocitek partner to present the 2009 Melges 17 Speed Challenge, beginning at the Midwinter Championship on March 13-15.
The Melges 17 is an absolute rocket ship that out performs all boats in its size or class range. Velocitek Performance Training Tools and Palmetto Performance Yachting realizes its unique and impressive attitude, and as a show of esteem for the Melges 17, they are proud to present the 2009 Melges 17 Speed Challenge. The contest includes seven total events.
Attention all Melges 17 competitors — the speed challenge is open to all current class members who own a Velocitek SC-1, SpeedPuck or S10. Beginning with the Midwinter Championship on March 13-15 at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club, and up through the National Championship on August 28-30 at Glen Lake, one top award will be presented to the sailor who logs the fastest speed at each event. During the closing Nationals ceremonies, the sailor who logged the top speed for the season will earn a grand prize for themselves and their crew.
The top speed will be based on the unit that records the highest maximum speed (based on maximum 10-second average speed) during race conditions. The data will be backed up via a download to Velocitek SpeedPlay software.
Melges 17 teams that need to purchase a Velocitek unit are encouraged to contact Palmetto Performance Yachting as they will be offering up a great discount to class members through May 2009. Please visit their website for order information. They will also have new SpeedPucks available onsite at the next few events for a discounted price. Stay tuned to the official website for the Melges 17 Class Association, melges17.com for cumulative results and news.
