A Melges 17 Midwinter Nights Dream Event!
27 February 2008
As the Midwest begins to thaw out from the brutal cold (sooner or later) and look ahead to some incredible springtime racing, potentially more than fifteen Melges 17s are traveling to what is going to be a dream event — the 2008 Melges 17 Midwinter Championship.
Hosted by the Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Lake Eustis, Florida this fun-in-the-sun regatta is proceeded by the famous Zenda University conducted by Melges Performance Sailboats, March 6th. The 2008 Zenda University is always a great opportunity to learn from the professionals at Melges, ask questions and share tips, tricks with friends and other competitors. This is one of the closest, tight-knit fleets on the planet — lots of fun and full of energy!
On March 7-9 the hottest racing on the Scow circuit can be found on the challenging waters of Lake Eustis. Last year Iggy and Andy Labanauskas championed the fleet with winning speed and superior boat handling. This year, the fleet is attracting boats from as far west as Colorado — Mark Unicume, Bob Wynkoop from Michigan, Ken Wruk from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Knox Rodgers from Atlanta, Georgia. Florida's Martin Zonnenberg is also expected to be in attendance. The very competitive Bill Wiggins is expected to give M17 Event Coordinator Mary Anne Ward a nice run for the title of Midwinter Champion.
